What is app maintenance and support?
App maintenance and support is the ongoing work of keeping a mobile or web app reliable after launch. It includes fixing bugs, updating the app for new Android and iOS versions and devices, applying security patches, updating libraries and APIs, monitoring crashes and performance, keeping up with App Store and Google Play policies, and adding small improvements.
What does ABC Designs’ app maintenance service include?
ABC Designs, a digital agency in Andheri East, Mumbai founded in 2012, provides maintenance and support for Android, iOS, Flutter and web apps, including apps built by other teams: health audits, bug fixing, OS and device compatibility updates, security patching, performance monitoring, store policy compliance, backups and feature enhancements, on monthly plans with agreed response times and a monthly report.
01 — Diagnosis
What happens when an app isn’t maintained?
Apps don’t stand still: the phones, operating systems, app stores and services around them change constantly. These six problems show up in almost every neglected app we take over.
Breaks after OS updates
What happens: features stop working or layouts break after a new Android or iOS release.
How we prevent it: Testing on beta OS versions and shipping compatibility updates before users notice.
Store warnings and removals
What happens: Google Play or Apple flag the app for outdated SDKs, missing privacy details or policy issues.
How we prevent it: Tracking store requirement deadlines and policy changes, and updating ahead of them.
Security vulnerabilities
What happens: outdated libraries with known security flaws put user data at risk.
How we prevent it: Dependency scanning, regular patching and periodic security reviews.
Rising crashes
What happens: ratings drop as crashes creep up after each change.
How we prevent it: Crash monitoring with alerts and root-cause fixes, prioritised by user impact.
Broken integrations
What happens: payment, SMS, maps or login services change their APIs and stop working.
How we prevent it: Monitoring third-party APIs and updating before old versions are switched off.
The developer has disappeared
What happens: no documentation, no account access and nobody who knows the code.
How we prevent it: A code audit, documentation and secure transfer of every account into your name.

03 — Types of maintenance
The four types of app maintenance, explained
Corrective maintenance fixes what’s broken, adaptive keeps up with change, perfective makes the app better and preventive stops problems before users see them. A good maintenance plan covers all four.
| Corrective | Adaptive | Perfective | Preventive | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Fixing bugs and errors that users report or monitoring catches | Updating for new OS versions, devices, store rules and third-party APIs | Improving features, UX and speed based on feedback | Security patches, dependency updates, code clean-up and monitoring |
| Example | A checkout button that fails on some phones | Updating for the latest Android or iOS release | Simplifying sign-up after users drop off | Patching a vulnerable library before it is exploited |
| When | As issues arise | Around OS releases and store deadlines | Planned every month | Continuously |
| Risk if skipped | Bad reviews and lost sales | App breaks or becomes unavailable in stores | App falls behind competitors | Data breaches and sudden outages |
These four categories come from the software maintenance standard ISO/IEC/IEEE 14764. Also see Android and iOS app development.

05 — Response times
How quickly will you fix issues?
Response times depend on how serious the issue is and the plan you choose: critical issues get the fastest response, minor issues go into the next scheduled release. Exact times are written into your plan’s service-level agreement (SLA).
App down or data at risk. The app won’t open, payments are failing, or there is a security issue. Worked on first, until resolved.
Key feature broken. A core feature fails for many users. Fixed and released as a priority update.
Minor bugs and changes. Small bugs, content changes and improvements, scheduled into the next regular release.
Response and resolution times are agreed in your SLA. Bars show relative priority.
06 — Reporting
How we measure your app’s health
Every month you get a report on these numbers, so you can see the app getting healthier, not just a list of tickets closed.
| Metric | Why it matters | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Crash-free users | The share of users who never hit a crash. | Firebase Crashlytics |
| Uptime | Whether the app and its back end are available when users need them. | Server monitoring |
| Response & resolution vs SLA | Whether issues are picked up and fixed within the agreed times. | Support desk |
| Open bugs by severity | The backlog, and whether it is shrinking. | Issue tracker |
| OS & store compliance | Ready for the latest Android, iOS and store requirements. | Play Console / App Store Connect |
| Security patch status | Libraries with known vulnerabilities, and how quickly they are patched. | Dependency scans |
| Store rating trend | Whether users are noticing the improvements. | Play Console / App Store Connect |

App maintenance and support: frequently asked questions
Worried about your app? Get a free app health check and we’ll tell you what needs attention first.
What is app maintenance and support?
App maintenance and support is the ongoing work that keeps an app reliable after launch: bug fixes, updates for new OS versions and devices, security patches, monitoring, store policy compliance and small improvements.
Why does my app need maintenance after launch?
Apple and Google release new OS versions every year and change store rules regularly, libraries get security updates, and third-party services change their APIs. Without maintenance, apps gradually break, slow down or become unavailable to new users.
How much does app maintenance cost?
It depends on the app’s size, platforms, code quality, hosting and how many improvement hours and how fast a response you need. We recommend a plan after a free app health check.
What is included in your app maintenance plan?
Bug fixes, OS and device compatibility updates, security patches, crash and uptime monitoring, store compliance, backups and a monthly report. Growth plans add monthly hours for new features.
Do you support both mobile and web apps?
Yes. We maintain Android, iOS and Flutter apps, web apps and the back ends and APIs they share.
Can you maintain an app built by another agency?
Yes. We start with a takeover audit of the code, accounts and current issues, document what exists, then stabilise the app before adding anything new.
How quickly do you respond to issues?
Response times depend on severity and your plan. Critical issues, such as the app being down or a security problem, are handled first; exact times are written into your service-level agreement.
How often do you release updates?
Most apps get a planned release every month, plus urgent fixes whenever needed. Each release is tested and comes with release notes.
Is security included in app maintenance?
Yes. Every plan includes dependency and library updates, vulnerability checks and urgent patches for security issues.
What happens when Apple or Google release a new OS?
We test your app on the beta versions before release, fix anything that breaks and ship a compatibility update, so your users aren’t the first to find problems.
Will you add new features as well?
Yes. Growth plans include monthly hours for new features and improvements, planned with you in a roadmap call.
Do you offer long-term support contracts?
Yes. We offer monthly and annual plans; longer plans make budgeting easier and let us plan improvements further ahead. [Confirm notice period and contract terms.]
Do you work with clients outside Mumbai?
Yes. Our team is based in Andheri East, Mumbai, and we support apps for businesses across India and internationally.
